A Decade of Peace? What It Could Mean for Jamaica’s Housing Future

The Prime Minister has declared the current period to be “a decade of peace,” signalling a policy shift from simply reducing crime to actively reshaping Jamaica’s social environment to discourage violence. While framed as a national security strategy, the ambition carries significant implications for Jamaica’s property market, housing stability, and long-term land development.

Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in downtown Kingston, the Prime Minister outlined a vision in which violence is removed from what he described as “Brand Jamaica.” He noted sustained reductions in homicides over the past three years and pointed to expanded coordination among the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Jamaica Defence Force, the Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency, and Customs.
