In Jamaica, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) refers to various methods used to resolve conflicts and disputes without going through traditional court procedures. ADR provides an informal and flexible approach to resolving disagreements, making the process more accessible and often faster than litigation. The main forms of ADR include mediation, where a neutral mediator helps the parties negotiate a settlement, and arbitration, where an arbitrator makes a binding decision based on the evidence presented. Conciliation, another form of ADR, involves a conciliator who assists in finding a resolution and may suggest potential solutions. These methods are particularly valued in Jamaica for their efficiency and effectiveness in handling disputes related to property, commercial issues, and family matters. ADR helps reduce the burden on the court system and allows parties to resolve their issues in a less confrontational and more collaborative manner.
