Asbestos is a material once commonly used in home construction for its fire-resistant and insulating qualities. However, it has since been recognized as a serious health hazard. Many older homes still contain asbestos, which poses risks when repairs or renovations are undertaken. Sellers must disclose the presence of asbestos before a home is sold. It’s crucial to identify whether asbestos is present before starting any renovation projects. Removal of asbestos should only be carried out by qualified professionals using appropriate safety equipment. Asbestos can be found in insulation, walls, flooring, and around plumbing fixtures. Inhalation of asbestos fibers is dangerous and has been associated with mesothelioma, a rare cancer affecting the lung lining.
