African Caribbean planning officer, dressed in a crisp white shirt, dark trousers, and a bright orange safety vest, standing at the edge of a rugged Jamaican coastline, surveying a development site for a new petrol station, with a mix of excitement and focus on her face, as the warm Caribbean sun casts a golden glow on her skin, surrounded by the sounds of waves crashing and seagulls flying overhead

The Building Authority, whether in Jamaica or globally, is the body that regulates and approves construction to ensure safety and compliance with laws. In Jamaica, this includes municipal councils like the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAMC), which oversee building codes, zoning, and safety standards. Globally, similar bodies evaluate plans, issue permits, inspect construction, and enforce rules to prevent unsafe practices. For instance, in Jamaica, building a commercial property in Kingston requires KSAMC approval, just as developers in cities like New York or London must work with local planning departments. These authorities ensure urban development is safe, sustainable, and well-organized.
