As a farmer in Jamaica, you may benefit from a 50% reduction in property tax if your land is used exclusively or primarily for agricultural purposes. This relief, often referred to as “derating,” is designed to support agricultural activities and reduce the financial burden on farmers who contribute to the island’s food security and rural economy.

To access this benefit, you will need to complete an Application for Derating form. These forms are available at your nearest Tax Collectorate office. The process typically involves providing evidence that the land is being used for agricultural purposes, such as farming, livestock rearing, or other related activities. Once approved, the reduced tax rate will be applied to your property.
