Compensation refers to the payment or reward given in exchange for services or work performed. In the context of real estate, whether in Jamaica or globally, compensation usually involves the fees or commissions paid to real estate agents or brokers for their efforts in selling or renting a property. This payment is often calculated as a percentage of the property’s sale price or rental income. Compensation ensures that agents are fairly rewarded for their time, expertise, and the work they put into closing a deal. For example, if an agent helps sell a house in Kingston, they receive a commission from the sale as compensation for their services. Beyond real estate, compensation can also apply to various situations, such as salaries and wages in employment, monetary settlements for damages or losses, and rewards for achievements or contributions. In each case, compensation represents a form of payment or benefit provided in recognition of someone’s work or losses.
