Downspouts are vertical pipes attached to the gutters of a building, designed to channel rainwater from the roof to the ground and away from the foundation. By directing runoff water through these pipes, downspouts prevent water from accumulating around the base of the building, which can lead to issues like soil erosion, basement flooding, and foundation damage. Typically made from materials such as aluminum, PVC, or copper, downspouts are strategically positioned to ensure efficient drainage and are often fitted with extensions or splash blocks to direct water further from the property. Regular inspection and maintenance of downspouts are essential to ensure they remain clear and functional, helping to protect the building from potential water damage.
