Dutty

“Dutty,” meaning “dirty” in Jamaican Patois, is often used to describe unclean or undesirable conditions and can be particularly relevant in real estate discussions. A prospective buyer might complain, “Di yard dutty, dem need fi clean it up before mi even consider di house,” if the outdoor space is cluttered or neglected. During property inspections, an agent might advise, “Yuh cyaan show di kitchen like dis, it look too dutty fi impress anyone.” Tenants viewing a rental might express hesitation with remarks like, “Di bathroom dutty, mi nah move in unless dem fix it up.” The term emphasizes the importance of cleanliness and upkeep in making properties appealing, underscoring a key aspect of maintaining value and ensuring successful transactions in the real estate market.
