In Jamaican real estate, an endorser is an individual who signs a financial document, such as a mortgage or lease agreement, to vouch for the validity and reliability of the primary borrower or tenant, often taking on additional responsibility for the obligation if needed. This role is important because it provides an extra layer of security for lenders or landlords by guaranteeing that the endorser will cover the debt or lease payments if the primary party defaults. An endorser is typically required when the primary borrower or tenant does not have sufficient credit or financial history to qualify independently. To act as an endorser, the individual must review and agree to the terms of the contract and may need to demonstrate their financial stability and willingness to assume liability. This agreement is formalized by signing the document, making the endorser legally responsible for ensuring the contract is fulfilled.
