Fam is a Jamaican Patois term derived from the word “family,” but in the context of everyday speech, it has evolved to refer to close friends, associates, or anyone with whom one shares a strong bond. It’s used to express a sense of camaraderie and closeness, much like saying “bro” or “sis” in other cultures. The term conveys familiarity and trust, often used among people who consider each other part of their inner circle.

In real estate, fam can be employed when agents or clients share a rapport, fostering an informal yet friendly atmosphere. For instance, a real estate agent might say, “Mi tell mi fam about di property, an dem interested,” which means, “I told my close friends about the property, and they’re interested.” It creates an approachable and relaxed tone in conversations, helping agents build rapport with potential buyers or sellers.
