Tourism is one of Jamaica’s most significant economic drivers, bringing millions of tourists to the island each year. The influx of visitors generates substantial revenue, which, on the surface, suggests a thriving economy. However, the reality is more nuanced. Most of the large hotel chains operating in Jamaica are foreign-owned. This means that the revenue generated from tourism often never touches Jamaican shores.
