Nestled on a verdant plateau at 628 meters above sea level, approximately 103 kilometers west of Kingston, Mandeville stands as the inland capital of Manchester Parish — unique in Jamaica for its elevated charm and colonial legacy. Established in 1816, the town was named after Viscount Mandeville, son of the Duke of Manchester and then Governor of Jamaica. Its carefully planned layout and architectural gems like the Mandeville Court House—constructed in 1817 with iconic limestone blocks and classical Georgian design—mirror its colonial roots while anchoring the town’s cultural identity.

Manchester Parish itself was carved from neighboring territories in 1814 and has a history that stretches deeper, woven with Amerindian (Taino/Arawak) presence, evident in cave carvings and archaeological finds.
