The Mount Nebo Baptist Church is renowned for its unique architectural feature: the steepest roof among all church buildings in Jamaica, making it a distinct landmark in the parish of St. Catherine. Originally founded in 1837, the current chapel represents a later development, constructed in the early 20th century to replace earlier structures.
The present Gothic-style edifice was brought to life under the leadership of the Reverend C. M. Bennett, who served as the church’s pastor from 1898 to 1923. Revered for his vision and dedication, Rev. Bennett sourced the architectural plans for the chapel from England, ensuring that the design reflected the elegance and grandeur associated with traditional Gothic church architecture. Construction began in 1905, culminating in a robust and enduring structure that has stood the test of time.
