As Jamaica continues to modernize and expand its housing stock, the National Housing Trust (NHT) is making it clear that progress will not come at the expense of the nation’s cultural and historical legacy.
According to Brian Saunders, Senior General Manager for Construction and Development at the NHT, the agency remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving Jamaica’s historical sites, even as it accelerates new housing developments across the island.
“The significance of our history and our heritage is something that is not lost on the Trust,” said Saunders during a recent Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank session in Kingston.
“So, in the first step of the planning process, the NHT writes to all the agencies of government to get their comments on our intended housing developments before we begin construction.”
