Tryall Great House

Tryall Great House is located in the parish of Hanover, Jamaica, along the main road between Hopewell and Sandy Bay, right next to the famous Tryall Golf Course. The estate has a rich history, originally being a sugar plantation in the 19th century. Today, it’s a popular place for visitors to enjoy a golf course, tennis courts, and a beach club. Even though it’s been modernized, there are still pieces of history scattered around the property. You can find old gravestones, the ruins of a sugar mill, and a large iron water wheel that still works. There’s also a cast-iron boiler and a beautiful brick chimney, all leftover from the old sugar works. For many years, Tryall hosted the Johnny Walker Golf Tournament, which was held every year until 1996. The estate has changed from a working plantation to a spot where people come to relax and enjoy sports, but it still holds on to pieces of the past, giving everyone a glimpse of Jamaica’s history.
