If you are a Jamaican who has been living in another country and you’re thinking about moving back to Jamaica to live, there are special rules that can help you. These rules are called the Returning Resident Status, and they allow you to bring your personal and household items, and tools you need for work, without paying extra taxes. Here’s what you need to know, explained simply.

Who Can Be a Returning Resident?

To qualify for the Returning Resident Status and enjoy its benefits, you need to meet these conditions:

  1. You are a Jamaican citizen aged 18 or older.

    • This means you were born in Jamaica or have Jamaican nationality, and you are an adult.

  2. You have lived abroad for at least the last three years continuously.
