It is understood that some Returning Residents have family members, such as spouses or children, who may not be Jamaican citizens. To address this, recent changes in Jamaican law ensure that all non-Jamaican spouses of Returning Residents can enjoy the same privileges granted to Jamaican citizens. Additionally, children born outside Jamaica to Jamaican parents may now claim Jamaican citizenship by descent, whether the Jamaican parent is the mother or the father.
With these changes, non-Jamaican spouses accompanying Returning Residents are eligible for the same duty-free concessions and other benefits that Jamaican nationals receive.
