White Jamaicans, or Euro-Jamaicans, are individuals of European descent, primarily from Britain, Ireland, Spain, Germany, and Portugal. Historically, the European presence in Jamaica began with Spanish colonization in the 1500s, followed by British conquest in 1655. Many white settlers arrived during this period to manage plantations or establish trading enterprises. However, the population significantly declined over the centuries due to factors like wars, disease, and emigration. By the 1800s, white Jamaicans constituted only about 4% of the population.
